The Battle of Britain raged over the English Channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">More than the Spitfires, more than the Hurricanes, our most powerful defence was our pilots. Yet, even in high summer, life expectancy for an airman in the icy waters of the Channel was measured in minutes \u2013 and many, many pilots were downed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\">The RAF had spent the 1930s developing the ST 200 Class Seaplane Tender. We know she is an exceptionally rare survivor \u2013 an authentic 1940 ST 200 Class Seaplane Tender. Her sister ship is safely retired to the RAF Museum in Hendon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\">Finding a vessel of this pedigree in a restorable condition is practically unheard of. No clich\u00e9 is enough: one in a million, a needle in a haystack \u2013 this is an extraordinary find.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-11 wp-block-paragraph\">For now, stripped of her markings, she is known to us simply as \u2018Phantom\u2019. Powered by twin period-accurate Perkins S6M diesels, she is a masterclass in British wooden-hulled maritime engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-palette-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-12 wp-block-paragraph\">This autumn, she will be moved north to Doncaster \u2013 home of Structural Repairs\u2019 manufacturing plant for ReInforcerX.
